HAMPTON — The Morrow Mustangs equaled their win total from 2016 in Week 1 with a dramatic 27-26 victory over Hampton Friday night.
Morrow built a 27-13 lead but saw the Hornets storm back in the final quarter. Hampton scored a touchdown to cut Morrow’s lead to 27-26, but a failed 2-point conversion allowed the Mustangs to escape with the win.
“It went all the way down to the wire,” said Morrow head coach Jerome Weaks. “It was a sigh of relief. It’s been a long time coming. I’m proud of my guys they’ve been busting their butts. It’s a great thing to get that monkey off our back so we can start this thing off right.”
Tabious Clemmons scored twice for Morrow, while Kris Clark scored once.
